I lost my job and now credit card debt is destroying my financial situation

My life has spiraled almost out of control all because of terrible money issues.  For me it all started when I lost my job this was something that I truthfully didn’t foresee this happening and well of course it did.  Without needing to mention losing a job is not good for any of us but I have not yet picked myself up and found another job yet.  This immediately made me understand just how bad another financial problem I had is.  This issue is credit card debt.  My debt bills are pretty large and without income I can’t pay them and will obviously begin to fall into delinquency on the monthly payments.

I have been looking for a debt solution that will help me out while I am still trying to find new employment.  My financial advisors have been claiming that debt settlement is a reasonable program that will be for debtors in my sort of situation.  The goal in mind of this plan is for the debtor to save funds and become debt free quickly.  This sounds precisely like what I should be doing.

It looks as if a debt settlement program is really the only sensible road for me because a bankruptcy hearing would require me selling my house and a consumer credit counseling program is something I can’t afford.  I have talked about this program with my spouse and she feels that debt settlement would be a good course of action for us too.  When we get out of credit card debt then we insist on becoming much more responsible with our finances and never get sucked in this horrid trap ever again.
