There are many individuals around today that are adamant that december 21 2012 will be the end of the world. Can it really happen though? What will really occur if this happens though? There are many theories that occur about this. The destruction of the earth by a celestial body is one of these theories. This could be a so-called black hole coming too near our solar system. Yet others believe that the so-called Planet X called Nibiru will make a retuen after a long orbital path around the sun. The theorists think that Planet X will be passing very close to the Earth at some stage and it will be this that causes the earth’s destruction.

An asteroid slamming into the earth is another theory. However, many scientists have pointed out that there is no asteroid on a collision course with earth, or at least not one that we can detect. There will be a “close” asteroid encounter, but this close is actually more than eighteen times the distance from the moon to our earth away. Although in astronomical terms this is close, it is not close enough to cause concern amongst astronomers and scientists.

A geomagnetic reversal event caused by a solar flare is another theory. The reversal will supposedly have the effect of change the two poles polarity, causing massive natural disasters.
