There are many different ways to track the status of your refund check. It will all depend on how you filed your return. If you want some tips on how to track your IRS refund, then you’ve come to the right place.
If you e-filed directly through the IRS then you will need to complete the following steps:
- First, you will need to wait about 72 hours for your information to be processed into the IRS website before you can track your IRS refund.
- After that you will need to gather some information. You will need to have your social security number or taxpayer identification number, filing status, and the exact amount of your expected refund.
- Once you enter this information into their system you will be able to track the status of your refund.
- If no information is available then you may call the IRS customer service line to get more information. If you still have not received your refund within 28 days of filing then you may begin a refund trace to locate your return.
- If you filed your return using tax preparation software such as TurboTax Online, then you will need to follow these steps:
- Once you have completed your return, you will receive an e-mail within a few minutes to let you know your return was processed successfully.
- Then you may check the status of your federal return within 24 to 48 hours.
- You will then have the option to either receive an e-mail when your return has been sent or you may directly log back into TurboTax and check the status simply by entering your login information.
TurboTax will also let you know if your return has been rejected and you will be able to make changes immediately and resubmit your return.
